Island Beach State Park
Located about 10 miles south of the Seaside Heights boardwalk, Island Beach State Park is a 3,000-acre preserve that protects a barrier island’s natural shoreline and nearshore habitats. The park features a dense maritime forest, rolling sand dunes, and tidal marshes, as well as close to ten miles of sandy beach. Nearly 400 different species of plants and animals live here.
The park is open year-round, seven days a week. Entrance fees are collected at the gate. Visitors must pay $5 per vehicle, not per person. Admission to the park is free for residents of New Jersey, but non-residents must pay a fee of $10 per vehicle.
Visitors to the park can enjoy a day on the beach at the beach, or take part in a nature hike. There are several options for hikers in the area, including the F Houston Mcilvain Dam via Rice Road, or the Marsh Creek State Park’s 6.8-mile loop.
The park features one mile of ocean beach. Lifeguards are staffed from mid-June to Labor Day to ensure safety. The park also features a first aid station and changing facilities. The park also features a beach that is accessible only by four-wheel-drive trucks. Visitors are required to pay the regular summer park fees, and there are additional charges for using the truck beach.
